About a month ago, RPI picked up a transfer commitment from Mercyhurst Forward Austin Heidemann. Listed at 6’0″ and 190 LBs, Heidemann has good size, and he was one of their top forwards as both a freshman and a sophomore. In 2020-21, he had 7 goals, 5 assists and 12 points in 16 games in the shortened season. This year, he had 12 goals, 15 assists and 27 points in 38 games.
Heidemann is a wing who can play on both sides effectively. As evidenced by his 19 goals in 54 career games, his shot and scoring ability are great, and he has good strength and puck possession to along with it. His compete is also very high, and he has no problem driving the net and going to the dirty areas of the ice. With good skill to go with these traits, Heidemann has a well-rounded offensive game that will allow him to contribute well as part of RPI’s forward group.
Overall, Heidemann will be a great addition to the Engineers. With his proven scoring ability and RPI’s youthful roster, we expect him to fill a top 6 spot at RW. We can’t wait to see him in the Cherry and White! Congratulations to Austin and his family!
