In early December, ’04 Forward Felix Caron committed to RPI. Caron is a right-shot player listed at 5’10” and 165 LBs who is currently playing for the Collège Esther-Blondin Phénix in Quebec’s U18 AAA league. His numbers in the league are very good with 19 goals, 27 assists and 46 points in 35 games, well over a point per game. His 46 points rank 7th in the league. Caron is already committed to play for the West Kelowna Warriors in the BCHL next season. Making the jump to junior hockey in his draft year will be a good challenge for him.
In the article, we get a bit of a scouting report about Caron. The GM and Head Coach described him as “a dynamic player who can score, makes plays and competes at both ends of the ice.” A former teammate of his said that Caron “brings great energy, skill and a fantastic one timer on the powerplay.” Overall, it sounds like he has high energy, skill and scoring abilities, which is a great tool-kit for him to bring to RPI. We should learn more about his abilities and get a more complete scouting report when he is in the BCHL next season.
With his late ’04 birthdate, we are projecting that Caron will enroll at RPI in Fall 2024. His move to the BCHL next year will be great for his development, and he likely will spend two years there before coming to Troy. It is possible that he has a great year in the BCHL next season and comes in as a true freshman in 2023, but it’s much more likely that he’s a 2024 arrival. With his skill set, he should be an impact player regardless of when he suits up for the Engineers, and we can’t wait to watch him in junior hockey until then. Congratulations to Felix and his family!
